Contemporary French Theater in the Bay Area

The goal of Carmina Theater is to present French contemporary plays in the original French (with English supertitles) to Bay Area audiences in professional-quality productions.

Created in 2019 by Pascale Couderc, who has been directing theater for over 15 years in the Bay Area (with Théâtre du Coin, Platypus, Génération Théâtre, etc.), Carmina Theater brings together artists who have already worked together on multiple projects, including "Adieu, Monsieur Haffmann," produced in January 2018 in San Francisco with Génération Théâtre -- less than a week after the play opened at the Petit Montparnasse Theater in Paris, where it went on to earn 4 Molières [the French theater awards].

In the fall of 2019, Carmina Theater presented its first play, "God of Carnage" by Yasmina Reza, at the Shelton Theater, directed by Pascale Couderc, and featuring Emmanuelle Lambert, Marion Lovinger, Thomas Marigné, and Benoît Monin.

At Carmina Theater we believe in the collaborative necessity of theater. We believe theater holds the power to awaken the desire, the hope, the courage and the appetite of the spirit, to restore faith in humanity, to weave communities together through a shared yearning for storytelling.

Carmina Theater contributes part of its ticket sales to organizations that support graphic and performing arts in San Francisco.
