Cet automne, le public de San Francisco a découvert la toute nouvelle Compagnie Carmina avec “Le Dieu du Carnage” de Yasmina Reza, sur une mise en scène de Pascale Couderc. En février 2020, la Compagnie Carmina revient avec “La Peur” d’Élodie Menant, une pièce créée en 2014 au Festival d’Avignon, et qui a fermé en France à la fin 2019.
Ce thriller psychologique, d’après la nouvelle de Stefan Zweig du même nom, garde le spectateur en haleine tandis qu’un couple amoureux sombre dans le soupçon et l’effroi: Fritz peut-il faire confiance à sa femme Irène, alors qu’elle invente des excuses pour disparaître le soir? Irène peut-elle se fier à son avocat de mari, lui qui défend les plus atroces criminels sans hésitation? Et qui est cette femme mystérieuse qui sort de l’ombre pour accuser Irène et la faire chanter? Manipulation? Hallucination? Complot? Comme dans un Hitchcock, chaque scène fait monter le suspense jusqu’au dénouement final.
Sur une mise en scène originale de Pascale Couderc et des décors de Cécile Picard, avec Emmanuelle Lambert, Benoît Monin, et Courtney Walsh*. In February 2020, Carmina Theater presented “Fear”
This fall, San Francisco audiences discovered brand new company Carmina Theater with “God of Carnage” by Yasmina Reza, directed by Pascale Couderc. In February 2020, Carmina returns with “Fear” by Élodie Menant, a play originated at the 2014 Avignon theater festival, and which just closed in France at the end of 2019.
This psychological thriller, based on a short story by Stefan Zweig, keeps audiences guessing as they watch a loving couple sink into suspicion and dread: Can Fritz trust his wife Irène, when she is making up excuses to disappear at night? Can Irène have faith in her lawyer husband, who defends the most loathsome criminals without a blink? And who is this mysterious woman coming out of the shadows to accuse Irène and blackmail her? Manipulation? Hallucination? Conspiracy? As in a Hitchcock movie, each scene builds up the suspense, until the final twist.
Directed by Pascale Couderc on a set by Cécile Picard, featuring Emmanuelle Lambert, Benoît Monin, and Courtney Walsh*. From February 13 to 29, 2020, on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm at the Exit Theater, 156 Eddy St, San Francisco. In French with English supertitles.
